Launched in 2016 as a complement to the Homeless Project, the As-Suffa Food Bank aims to combat food insecurity among vulnerable populations. Collaborating with various referral agencies, including children’s centres, housing associations, and the NHS Maternity Service, the food bank has assisted numerous service users by distributing essential food parcels. This initiative ensures that individuals and families facing hardship have access to nutritious food, thereby promoting health and alleviating stress within the community.
Since Covid, as-well as operating a collection service, majority of our parcels are now delivered directly to the recipients by our team of volunteers, this is an essential lifeline for those with mobility issues and childcare needs. To ensure that our limited supplies get to those most in need to be able to collect a food bank parcel you must be referred by a professional eg GP, School etc.
All our food parcels are sufficient to feed an average size family for one week. Our parcels include non-perishable goods like pasta, UHT milk, canned soups, etc.
If you are an organisation and want to become our partner organisation and distribute referral vouchers, please click here: http://www.as-suffa.org/food-bank-distributor-form/
PLEASE NOTE: We currently do not accept self referrals.
To date, we have served over 3,000 food parcels to the most needy individuals and families. We are also pleased to announce that we now work alongside several referral partners. These include the police service, schools and the local council.
